VA Wine Travel Guide iPhone App

No more wandering the byways of Virginia wondering if there’s a winery nearby. Virginia Wine in My Pocket, a recently-released App (in March) for iPhone and iPad, includes maps, descriptions and photos for more than 150 wineries throughout the state, as well as dining and lodging options, for a complete Wine Country travel experience.

The App is now available for download in Apple iTunes store for $3.99.

“Each winery is unique, and the only way to get to know them is to go there personally. Because we’ve been there, we can include categories like ‘Best Views, Best for Romance and Best for Groups’ in the App.”

Nancy Bauer and Rick Collier celebrate with Jim Bogaty after visiting 150 wineries in 150 days.

During their 150 Virginia Wineries in 150 Days Tour last summer and fall, App author Nancy Bauer and her husband and co-author, Rick Collier, interviewed hundreds of winery owners and winemakers, and took more than 10,000 photographs.

“Each winery is unique, and the only way to get to know them is to go there personally. Each winery is unique, and the only way to get to know them is to go there personally. Because we’ve been there, we can include categories like ‘Best Views, Best for Romance and Best for Groups’ in the App. We want to give readers enough information so they can find the winery experience they want, whether it’s small and intimate, big and rowdy, close by or far away.”

The App tells readers where pets are welcome, which wineries are appropriate for families and where tastings are free. The “Just off I-95” and “Just off I-81” categories help guide through-travelers who may only have enough time for a quick stop.

Knowing that many people don’t have iPhones yet, the App content is available through their website, VirginiaWineInMyPocket.com.

Guess Nancy and Rick will be hitting the road again soon -- We're up to about 200 wineries now!

From NANCY BAUER:Hi all! Thanks to Virginia’s go-getter wineries, and with a little help from our BFF Dave McIntyre, the Washington Post’s fab wine writer, the Virginia Wine in My Pocket app for iPhone/iPad has Cracked the list of the Top 100 Travel Apps!

The app has been trending well, and then Dave’s rave in a recent review pushed it over the top.

Wineries have been promoting the mobile travel guide to Virginia’s wine country in their newsletters, to their Wine Clubs, and by handing out our rack cards in their tasting rooms. We’ve also been teaming up on promotions with inns (like the Iris Inn), clubs (like Young Winos of DC ), and conferences (all the attendees at the American Wine Bloggers Conference in Charlottesville got the app, thanks to Virginia Tourism!).

Thanks again for all the support! Rick and I hope to see all of you on the trail this summer!

Nancy
